my (new) favorite amaretto sour
new-and-improved amaretto sour recipe
This recipe has been my go-to Amaretto Sour spec for quite some time, but I think this version has usurped it as my favorite.
If you’re paying attention to the Las Vegas bar scene, you know about the recent opening of Jive Turkey. One of the owners, Adam O’Donnell, has served time behind some incredible bars including Herbs and Rye and Nomad.
The Jive Turkey cocktail menu features some classics, including the Amaretto Sour. The recipe is an adaption of @jeffmorgen ’s recipe and the addition of Campari — a tip he noted during his time at Nomad bar, while also serving Jameson lay backs to Lady Gaga.
I will say this recipe needs to be adjusted according to Amaretto you choose and sweetness desired — skipping the syrup might be a solid move depending on what you choose.
Ingredients
0.25oz | 7.5ml simple syrup (optional)
0.25oz | 7.5ml Campari
0.75oz | 22.5ml high proof bourbon
1oz | 30ml lemon juice
1.5oz | 45ml amaretto
1 egg white
Cocktail Directions
Combine all ingredients into a shaker tin, dry shake until emulsified. Add ice, shake again to chill and dilute. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with drops of bitters on the surface.
