ward 8 cocktail

This one genuinely surprised me.

I think I’ve had this cocktail recommended to me a few times, but when I randomly stumbled across this recipe in the NoMad Cocktail Book, I figured it was time to give it a whirl.

In the book, they call for Rittenhouse Rye, which is at 100 proof. I opted for Still Austin’s Cask Strength Rye and honestly it was a bit too hot clocking in at 116.

While I love this rye in cocktails, I would have to adjust the ratios a bit to achieve some more balance.

Tart, lightly fruity, while still being whiskey driven.

Ingredients

0.5oz | 15ml grenadine

0.5oz | 15ml orange juice

0.5oz | 15ml lemon juice

2oz | 60ml rye whiskey, preferably 100 proof

Cocktail Directions

Combine all ingredients into a shaker tin, add ice, shake, and double strain into a coupe or Nick & Nora. No garnish.
