the lone ranger

The summer season is coming to a close, so I wanted to take advantage of some flavors still shining this late in the game paired with an excellent blanco tequila by Volcan.

I’ve made the modern classic, the Lone Ranger by Jeffrey Morgenthaler, only one time before, but remembered it was damn delicious. It’s a French 75 variation that uses blanco tequila and sparkling rose in place of the usual gin & prosecco.

To push the connection between the tequila and the sparkling rose even further, I wanted to incorporate some new supporting players: jalapeño, strawberry, and cilantro.

Undoubtedly, these three ingredients work well with tequila and sparkling rose independently — so why not merry them together?

The result is refreshing and complex with a solid kick of spice. It honestly makes me upset I didn’t think of this at the beginning of the season, so let’s bookmark this one to return to next year.

Ingredients

3 slices jalapeño

2 whole strawberries

Pinch of cilantro

0.5oz | 15ml 2:1 simple syrup

1oz | 30ml lemon juice

1.5oz | 45ml @volcan blanco Tequila

2-3oz | 60-90ml sparkling rose

Cocktail Directions

Add jalapeño and strawberry to your tin; muddle. Then add cilantro, syrup, lemon juice, and tequila; add ice, shake.

In a Collins glass with ice, add sparkling rose; double strain cocktail overtop. Garnish with a strawberry.
