New York Sour recipe

Also known as the cocktail that earned me the ire of the internet when my (failed) red wine float went viral.

This video marks my 200th post on Instagram, and to say I’m emotional about it would be an understatement.

I mean this from the bottom of my heart — you all have changed my life.

A year ago, while squeezing in time making content before heading into 10-12 hour shifts, I rushed the process of trying to make my first NY Sour on video. The float was catastrophic, immediately sinking to the bottom of the cocktail because I didn’t have to patience to let the drink settle. In fact, out of frustration and anxiety, I had made it twice with the same rushed results.

With the internet being the internet, there was no shortage of try-hards ready to jump down my throat about my technique, giving me my true first tase of hate comments at a scale I (luckily) haven’t had since.

I’m grateful for it. It allowed me to take a massively public ‘mistake’ and turn it into humor and connection with so many of you. It began the process of bringing out who I truly am—I’ve never been more proud to say that I genuinely don’t recognize the person I see in my videos from a year ago.

Thank you for coming along this journey with me, all of this is more than I ever dreamed it could be.

And I’m still just getting started.

Ingredients

0.75oz | 22.5ml simple syrup

1oz | 30ml lemon juice

2oz | 60ml bourbon of choice

1 egg white

float of red wine

Cocktail Directions

Combine syrup, juice, and whiskey into your small tin. In a separate tin, add the egg white. Combine together and dry shake, then add ice to shake again. Double strain into a chilled coupe. After the foam settles, use a spoon to float red wine on top. (I used Cabernet Franc)
