the hemingway daiquiri

As you can tell by the name, it’s dedicated to the man Ernest Hemingway.

Ernest Hemingway is a legend in the cocktail world. He has written extensively about his travels and the various drinks he enjoyed around the world, and even had a few created for him, such as this one created at La Floridita bar in Havana, Cuba where he was a regular.

He was a fan of their famous daiquiris, but asked the bartender for less sugar and double the rum.

The bartender, Constantino Ribalaigua, created this variation which became known as Papa Doble, meaning “Papa’s Double.”

Overtime, the drink evolved to include grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur for balance, becoming known as the Hemingway Special or Hemingway Daiquiri.

Ingredients

0.25oz 2:1 syrup

0.5oz Maraschino

0.5oz Grapefruit

0.75oz Lime

2oz White Rum

Cocktail Directions

Squeeze grapefruit juice and lime juice. Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a cherry.
