el presidente
el presidente recipe
I guess I’m on a Cuban cocktail kick — I’m not mad about it.
If you’re a fan of a Manhattan, but want to venture off into new territory, I highly recommend giving this a try.
El Presidente hails from Cuba and was created in the early 1900s. It was likely named for President Mario García Menocal, who ran the country from 1913 to 1921.
While lost in the US into obscurity thanks to Prohibition, this recipe has seen a revival in the modern cocktail era.
Delicate, fruit forward, and damn delicious.
Ingredients
1 bar spoon grenadine
0.5oz | 15ml orange curaçao
1oz | 30ml blanc vermouth
1.5oz | 45ml Cuban white rum (however, play with others)
Cocktail Directions
Combine all ingredients into stirring vessel, add ice, stir, and strain into a chilled Nick & Nora glass. Garnish with either an expressed orange or grapefruit peel.
