adonis cocktail

If you’re into low ABV cocktails, you might already know this one.

The Adonis is a classic featuring two primary ingredients: vermouth and sherry. When I researched this cocktail, there wasn’t a conclusive recipe that I could find aside from it must having those two components. Some were 50/50, others either sherry or vermouth dominant.

Knowing I wanted to incorporate some more baking spices, I opted for Carpano Antica, famous for its vanilla characteristics and chose to infuse it overnight with cinnamon and star anise.

Most recipes called for a Fino sherry, but others included Palo Cortado and Amontillado as well. I decided to do a split of both Manzanilla (a style similar to Fino) and Amontillado to get a wider range of nuttiness, salinity, and complexity to match with the spiced vermouth.

This recipe turned out to be equally festive and subtly savory — perfect as an aperitif shared with others with a charcuterie board nearby (we were lunchable kids, I know it’s gonna be there.)

Ingredients

2 dashes orange bitters

1oz | 30ml Manzanilla Sherry

1oz | 30ml Amontillado Sherry

1oz | 30ml spiced sweet vermouth (recipe below)

Directions

Combine all ingredients into a stirring vessel, add ice, stir until chilled and diluted. Serve in a chill coupe or Nick & Nora glass.
